Leopoldsburg, 23 January 2026 – The symbolic first stone of the new GO! Primary School FLX building was laid today on Campus FLX. The ceremony was attended by the school’s student council, headmistress Loore Schreurs, Anne Smeyers (general director of GO! Scholengroep Xpert), and Koen Pelleriaux (CEO of GO!), along with other guests. This moment marks a key milestone in a forward-looking project that has been in the making for years. If all goes according to plan, pupils will move into the new building in 2027.
Construction has been underway for several months, and the building’s shape is now taking form. The two-storey structure, designed by dbf archiecten, will bring together both preschool and primary education. A central courtyard will form the heart of the school, surrounded by instructional spaces, quiet work areas and flexible project zones. Thanks to movable walls and visual connections between rooms, teachers will be able to easily switch between traditional classroom teaching, tailored support and small group collaboration.
“With this new building, we’re making a strong step towards inspiring, future-proof learning environments,” says Loore Schreurs, headmistress of GO! Primary School FLX. “The central courtyard will soon become a calm, bright and connecting heart. Around that heart, we’re creating spaces that encourage children to collaborate, think independently and discover their talents.”
Next to the school building, a new light-filled sports hall is being built. It can be divided into two areas and will connect directly to the outdoor sports fields. The surrounding grounds will be greened and de-paved, offering natural play and meeting areas. This way, the learning environment is extended outdoors and creates extra space for the local community.
“We’re not just building a school here, but a place with real social impact,” says Jochen Willen, CEO of Democo. “By also taking care of the building’s maintenance for the next 30 years through the Aurora Scholen consortium, operated by The Energy Circle, we’re offering peace of mind to the school. They no longer have to worry about damage, upkeep or financing — school councils and parent committees can fully focus on teaching and pedagogy.”
The new school is being realised through a DBFM formula in collaboration with Aurora Scholen, a consortium of investors EPICo and Rebel, together with construction companies Democo and Van Roey. The consortium is responsible for the design, construction, financing and 30-year maintenance, executed by The Energy Circle.
Phased school operations during construction
Since September 2025, pupils have been attending temporary classrooms on the campus, allowing school life to continue safely while the new building is being constructed. Once completed, classes in the new building will start in 2027.
This project is part of a broader initiative by Aurora Scholen to renew school infrastructure across Flanders. The consortium is currently working on the realisation of 23 schools in Flanders, including in Lanaken, Ninove, Turnhout, Ertvelde, Ghent, Mechelen and Ronse.
