Democo builds blast-proof fire station on refinery site in port of Antwerp

In the port of Antwerp, Democo is working on a special project: a new fire station on the site of an oil refinery. A project where safety, technical preparation and precise execution come together.

The fire station will have a blast-proof design. This means the building is designed to remain operational even under exceptional impact from an explosion pressure wave. This requires a carefully considered approach, from engineering and site preparation to execution.

Prefabrication also plays an important role. The internal and external walls are delivered as complete elements and assembled on site, including finishing. This calls for precise planning and coordination, while also ensuring efficient, fast and high-quality execution.

In the video, site supervisor Joos explains what makes this project so unique and how the team is approaching the execution.

The works started in September 2025. Completion is scheduled for October 2026. In the meantime, the team is looking forward to an important milestone on site: the topping-out ceremony.
